If you lived in an area with a higher immigrant population, DC, Fairfax, Silver Spring, etc., they would have been exposed to the Inidan woman in her sari, the muslim woman wering a hijaab, hearing the languages they speak, befriending they're children and eating dinner with them at home. People don't live to SoMD for cultural diversity. JMO.
You must not live in my 'hood...nomoney said:No we live here so we don't get carjacked on a weekly basis.

Okay... now I'm confused... my family moved to St. Mary's when I was in 3rd grade yet I managed to develop a tolerance for other cultures. I jam to tunes of other nationalities... I've eaten at a Japanese hi-ya food place before... I was born in Tacoma Park tho and I did spend the early years in Forrestville. Hmmm... does this mean he should of been exposed in his formative years...vraiblonde said:So there you go, Kwillia. You're doing your children a disservice by not living living in the 'hood. You're off to a good start by living in Maryland, but you really need to move to PG County just to make sure your children are truly embracing diversity and experiencing other cultures.
I think all it means is that he is a red blooded American teenage boy and school, zits and girls(not in that order) interest him more than multicultural diversity :shrug:kwillia said:Okay... now I'm confused... my family moved to St. Mary's when I was in 3rd grade yet I managed to develop a tolerance for other cultures. You missed the boat again. I never asked why he doesn't appreciate or respect other cultures, I simply pointed out that it was only this weekend that I realized that was something I should of been working on all along, especially since he is being raised in a "9/11" society were we as a nation have taken on a new sense of "sushisamba said:Look, she's the one that felt bad because her children are ignorant about other cultures. Wanna live in "safe" (have ya been to Waldorf) SoMD in a cookie cutter community shielded from anyone that's not like you, go 'head, but don't ask why you're children don't appreciate and respect other cultures. :gettingoffsoapbox:
" regarding non-Americans.See, there's where you're hurting your children. "Tolerance" is such a mean word. Like you just "tolerate" them instead of embracing them and respecting them.kwillia said:Okay... now I'm confused... my family moved to St. Mary's when I was in 3rd grade yet I managed to develop a tolerance for other cultures.

In addition, If he thinks drinking cow blood and dancing to worship the cow god (Ethiopian diversity), stretching your bottom lip out so a dessert plate can rest in there (Nambian diversity), eatng sheeps stomach stuffed with various other crappy food stuffs (Scottish diversity), drinking vodka until you are slobbery and beating the shiat out of your wife (Russian diversity), Selling your children into prostitution (South East Asian diversity), wiping your ass with your hand (Arabian diversity) Killing the neighbor because he is muslim (Balkan diversity) is stupid, it is not that he is not embrasing multiculturalism, it is that he considered it and found it stupid.
