Parks with no trash cans

This is the dumbest idea government has ever come up with. They don't have trash receptacles so you're supposed to take your trash out with you - Calvert Cliffs has this policy.

And do you think people take their trash out with them?

Of course they don't. They throw it on the ground and leave it. Sometimes you'll even see bags of trash, so visitors went to the trouble of collecting their refuse into a bag, but couldn't be bothered to take the bag with them when they left.

I don't know whose idea this was, but it's stupid and needs to stop.

Back when I took daily hikes at Calvert Cliffs, I noticed they'd stick their trash and/or trash bags in the toilets in the Porta Potties.

There are 2 trash cans for the pier at the museum, and a dumpster in the parking lot, but it takes no time at all to fill those cans when you have a family of 20 generating 2-3 large bags during their visit. If it hits the ground, so be it, SOMEbody will pick it up.

Just sneakin' around....
I visit a number of 'bring it in, take it out' parks and camps. Yes, I always take out my own trash, never leave anything behind.

Pack out your trash has been standard in most state parks for years (I'd really like to blame O'Malley but it was either Shafer or Glendenning who took away the cans).

It hasn't stopped people from leaving dead bodies in the parks like the unsolved murder at Calvert Cliffs several years ago.

Been that way at State Parks for, a long long time. Ya know what's really sad? There are signs posted conspicuously at Calvert Cliffs that it is a bring-it-in, take-it-out, we-have-no-trash-cans-park. And you should see it. Not so sure about this year because of the boogyman, but in years past? People would haul their family and loaded four wheeled carts down the Red Trail to the beach, then ask, after they've gorged themselves and drank whatever, "where's the trash cans?" The look when told they had to carry everything back to their cars and dispose elsewhere? Priceless.

I swear you could blast a 10'x10' neon sign and people would still say they didn't see it. Liars. They saw it, they're just lazy aholes.

Maybe they're seeing something totally different.

Kinda like when CNN hears those dog whistles and secret messages in everything Trump says or tweets.

At the Piney Point landing...

1. there were no trash cans. Visitors left piles of trash, including dirty diapers. We'd clean it up.

2. We put some trash cans there. As soon as those were full, visitors left piles of trash, including dirty diapers. We'd clean it up...and haul the trash cans.

3. The county finally place trash cans there. As soon as those were full, visitors left piles of trash, including dirty diapers. The county would send a cew to clean it up...eventually.

4. The county installed a couple dumpsters. As soon as those were full, visitors left piles of trash, including dirty diapers. The county would send a cew to clean it up...eventually.

5. The county now has about 4-5 dumpsters there. JFC! But at least they finally seem to be holding their own most weekends.

People are scum.

Calvert Cliffs just caught up on the trend.
Most National Parks I believe started this policy years ago.
They can't keep on top of the trash as fast as the bears and other critters can get to it.
People bitch about the fees to get in, bitch about taxes, and parks are low down on the budget priority scale

So this is how the have to handle it.
We were always taught to leave a site better than when we came in.
