"Trick-or-Treating" on Halloween night is not what it used to be. When I was growing up my parents let us go out in groups up and down the neighborhood and no one ever worried that their bags would contain poisoned candy, razor blades stuck in apples, nor be confronted with thugs who were looking to cause trouble. Things have changed and it is more dangerous today for any kid to be out on Halloween. The alternatives for Christian families are the safest and as far as any parent who does not believe in God, I am sure they would also want their children to come back home safely on Halloween night.

In my opinion, Halloween is still a kids enjoyment for getting lots of candy, but, it is also the responsibility of a parent to teach kids the meaning of Halloween just as kids should know the meaning of the Christmas and Easter celebrations. Herein is where the knowledge of Good and Evil (Trick Or Treat)can be taught.

My family has opted out of traditional "Halloween" activities in favor of the older traditions mentioned in the article: celebrating the lives of the saints. November 1 is a Holy Day of Obligation and we are reminded of the great saints who have lived and died for Jesus Christ, as He did for them.
It is awful to have a toddler or young child out (after telling them there is no such thing as the boogie-man) when they suddenly find themselves face to face with the worst imaginings of their nightmares.
It's amazing how mindless people can be of young childrens' eyes, ears and innocence.
