Charles Co. Patrol Officer Recovers Loaded Firearm from Vehicle / Driver and Passenger Prohibited from Possessing Firearms

Five Maryland locations to serve you. Personal Injury, Criminal Defense, DUI Defense.
On August 22 at 12:56 p.m., a patrol officer initiated a traffic stop near St. Charles Parkway and Leonardtown Road in Waldorf after observing a motor vehicle violation. A check revealed the driver, Melvin Emell Lampkin, 28, of Waldorf, had an open warrant for failure to appear in court. Further, a plastic bag containing suspected marijuana and other narcotics was observed on the console. Officers also recovered a loaded firearm from the floor of the vehicle near the men’s feet. Lampkin and the passenger, Keymo Kemytte-William Key, 27, of Accokeek, are prohibited from possessing firearms due to previous felony convictions. They were arrested and charged with illegal possession of a firearm, illegal possession of ammunition, illegal transportation of a firearm, loaded handgun in a car, and other charges. On August 23, a judge held Lampkin without bond and released Key on personal recognizance under the condition he does not have access to firearms. Officer Brown is investigating.

Who wants to bet that if a white middle class citizen with no criminal history gets caught with a firearm in their vehicle not being transported IAW state law will get released on their own recognizance? My bet is there will be a bond set.

These two and others like them should be stopped based on their appearance (not including skin color) and searched. If they did that there would be a 95% illegal firearm recovery rate. I mean if it save one child’s life shouldn’t we be for it?

If you're going to carry an illegal firearm and drugs in your vehicle, at least try to hide them from public view. Its like these people who get pulled over because their lights are out and then turn out to have drugs in the car. FFS, at least get your car fixed and don't draw attention to yourself.
