Patuxent Elementary

Does anyone have children that attend Patuxent? I'm interested in hearing your views. Are they open to parent participation? How are the teachers and the principal. I have a little boy starting kindergarten in September 07 and I'm debating on Patuxent or keeping him in the Plum Point/Sunderland district where his daycare is.

My daughter is a second grader there. All of her teachers have been great. The principal has been responsive, and is nice. They welcome parent participation.

My son will be starting kindergarten there in September, and I am confident that it will be just as good for him as it was for my daughter.

You may have to check with Plum Point to see if it is even an option for him to go there. Schools have gotten so overcrowded over the years that going to daycare in a school district outside of your districted address does not automatically allow you to go to the other school district. Give the Plum Point a call to see if the principal is allowing the daycare transfers and go from there.

My step-children go to Plum Point (Ele and MS) and they're great schools. :yay:

Give the Board of Ed. a call about the transfer for child care issue, I do not think that it is up to the principal.

You are correct .. I've already been in touch w/ the school board. They just require a form to be filled out. This year I believe the kids will be bused to Plum Point Elementary. I believe Sunderland is too crowded.

It may be different in Calvert:shrug: When I've had daycare/school issues with my kids in other districts it was up to the principal.

I had someone tell me that they were not allowed to go on a field trip w/ their child to the National Zoo. I think it was a 1st grade field trip. I can understand wanting to be there to keep a eye on your own child, but I can see where there may not be enough space to take parents.

What if all parents wanted to go. I guess it's a case of letting the apron strings out a little. It would be very hard for me to let him go on his own.

I mentioned a new school to my son and he totally freaked out. He's been at the same daycare center since he was 3 months old. And now I'm thinking of switching daycares and sending him to a new school. I'm such a bad parent! :bawl:

My daughter had a field trip to DC in Kindergarten. There was one chaperone (parent or teacher) for every two or three kids. The parent who told you they couldn't go may have been late asking, when all chaperone spots had been filled. They take as many as they need, which may just be fewer than want to go.

Something you might point out to your son is that if he attends Patuxent, he will be going to school with kids who live near him. That make weekend and evening parties and activities a lot more convenient.

As far as the quality of the schools, I don't think there is much difference. Calvert schools in general are excellent.
