Good neighborhood or bad? Would you buy a house there?

I've been staying away from this area because of it's proximity to Great Mills road, however, it seems there are some nice houses there. What's the verdict?

Thanks.

I'd say it's not the best neighborhood, but it's probably not that terrible either. I had a friend who lived there and he thought it was just fine there. However, with that said, I would not buy a house there.

Is that wishy-washy enough? :lmao:

You mean Patuxent Homes? Midway drive area?

Not a friendly area. I lived on Wasp road for 8 yrs way back when.. It was a cut over to Nicolete Park.. Not fun!

I live in South Essex on the opposite side, behind Burger King and we have some really nice houses back here and really good people for the most part. Come check out some of the houses over here! The older houses in the first section are a lot better built then the newer ones. Hope this helps! :howdy:

From about 1968 to about 1971 I lived in Patuxent Park, in the last house on the end of Midway Drive. (The house has been repainted but the metal shed in the back yard is still there.) It was a sorta high-density area, small lots, small houses, not very good car parking, lotsa bratty kids. For the most part, the neighbors were very nice folks, but with a few spectacular exceptions.

That was a long time ago. I suppose things have changed, but I don't know which direction.

Super Bad Neighborhood. I lived on Cabot place 15 years ago and it was bad then. Don't do it.

I agree with Kain. The houses are lower priced for a reason. I'd steer clear of that area.

I lived on Hancock Dr. 8 years ago... It was ok, but I drive through there from time to time to see who my old house looks and that place is scary... It's an upscale hood.

I believe those homes were built around 1945-1950 and unless there's bee ALOT of work done(especially in the basement) I wouldn't think a house there would be worth much.. Certainly not the prices people are asking for them.

I live in Patuxent Park, right on Midway Dr. My wife and I are extremely happy here. We bought in here about 3 years ago. We could have gone for one that was already rehabbed but we didn't. We did it ourselves. There are some less than pretty homes in here and some are very nice. We have some wonderful and not so wonderful neighbors. I think you get that wherever you live. We were born and raised in Chicago so the density issue and the closeness of the homes is not an issue for us. We don't want acres of land to maintain. The 1100 square feet is inexpensive to heat and cool. The drive to work for both of us is about 6 minutes.

We have not had any problems with the so called rampant crime. My wife walks the dog in the evenings and has had no issues. What this neighborhood needs is people to take a chance, clean up and paint the house, plant some flowers and take a little pride of ownership. If you drive through here, you will see there are people doing this. It won't happen overnight, but it will happen.

This is a racially diverse neighborhood. There are white, black, latino and everything in between and after. This may have been a "hood" in the past but it is my feeling that with the price of homes in the county compared to the price of homes in the Park, this area will rebound and become a more desireable place to live. Am I dreaming? Who knows, but we like it here and that's really all that matters.

I hope Bucket is right. It IS true that there are people in that neighborhood cleaning up/remodeling those old homes, and it might start to get better. When I was house hunting, I checked out a few houses there, and I liked the actual homes. They felt comfortable and well-built to me. Neighborhood just wasn't quite what I wanted, though. One of the houses we walked through had broken 40 ouncers all through its, and the neighbor's, yard. Some of the houses had some extensive fencing and lots of no trespassing signs, and that was indicative of a problem - people don't put up all that stuff for no reason.
