Last week, a gentleman came in and said one of his dogs passed away the night before. He and his wife were very distraught and wanted to know if they had to take the dog to a vet to get him cremated.
Recently, someone had dropped off fliers for "Pawsitive Passage Pet Cremation Service" in Leonardtown.
The following day, the gentleman returned to thank me for the referral. He said the people were wonderful and that they were able to wait and take their beloved pet's ashes home.

I do need to stop by there and chat with them... I have some questions JUST in case i have one that passes without me by thier side!

They're one of our sponsors and Charlene is very nice. Haven't used their services, but when she and Patrick explained to me what they do it seemed like a wonderful idea vs. having the vet send your pet off to VA for cremation, then getting them (?) back a week later.

they sound like a place further up north.... where you can take your pet... and wait for them.

Im sure some out there could care less... but I do care about my pets! The last two I lost I took them to Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home

I think what is meant by that comment is that if your pet is sent away and comes back in a tin, that you don't really know what happened to your pet and if you are actually getting YOUR pet's ashes or something else? How would you know? I have cremated one dog and buried several others. The cremation process through my vet was very impersonal. My vet tried to do the best she could but her time is limited. When my dog's ashes arrived I recieved a call to pick them up, in a waiting room full of people. I couldn't get out the door fast enough before I started bawling in front of all those people. It could have been done a little better, I think. Being able to take my dog to be cremated would have been a wonderful option! But the backyard works, too. Nothing wrong with that.

nooooo .....

just that some dont even care about thier pets . Also there are many that just dump thier pets off at the shelter so the deed gets done... now thats just plain effed up in my book.


I know many people that bury thier pet.... but still care very much about thier pet.

I know I will not stay in one spot for the rest of my life and would not want to leave my pet behind.

Anyone know the average cost? I didn't see anything listed on their site. We have a 125+ pound dog and digging that hole would take days.

I plan to swing by there this eve on the way home.... if not I may see if they are open this weekend...

I will ask. I have two that are close to 100lbs....

but if I had to guess... Its gonna be around 250-300 bucks.

I spoke to Patrick there when making the arrangements for our dog. They are very flexible with arrangements. They pick up quickly, and you get the remains quickly. They have private cremation and "mass" cremation (you don't get the remains back).

Our Dog was about 110#.

From my notes, which aren't the greatest

Private for 100+ lbs. $225. There is another urn that you can get for $260 (called Sunset?).
Mass cremation. $58

We did not end up using them simply because our vet already used someone else, and we decided we didn't want the remains. We were comfortable with who our vet used, so making the extra arrangements did not make sense to us considering the circumstances. If we had been doing it at home, we would have used Pawsitive for sure

Thanks MarieB. Our dog is only 5 so hopefully we won't need this service for a long time but with bigger dogs, they don't live as long as the smaller ones. I'm figuring 8-10 years.

my worry is ... god forbid.... my dog passes in the middle of the night....


can i call them anytime or do i have to wait till the AM with my pet that has passed on.

It's always nice to be prepared. Our dog made it 12 1/2 years, so hopefully you won't have to worry about it for at least that long or longer

Im with ya there.....

I have a 7yr old, 2 6yr olds, a 4yr old, and a 11 yr old (she is only 5lbs)

and I hope I dont have to worry about the youngest for a while...she is only around 2.

I read that also.... but i just want to be sure...

working at the ER ... i always sucked when we got the DOA come in at the wee hours of the am.... I always felt bad for the owners as they didnt prepare for their pet to pass... then have to load it up after making phone calls to see if there was a place they can take them...

When my husband and I had ferrets, there were several times we'd have to call around to vets to see if any of them could put our pet to sleep ASAP. Most would say to make an appointment in the morning but when your pet is suffering and may linger for hours before passing, it breaks your heart to be told to wait to end their suffering. We always found a place but they'd make you feel like you were doing it for a convenience to you rather than your pet.

I always showed compassion to a person that was having to face letting their pet go....
