Noise Advisory during Winter Season
NAVAL AIR STATION PATUXENT RIVER, Md. -- Residents surrounding Naval Air Station Patuxent River may notice increased operations and a change in flight patterns during the winter months.
Evening and night-time operations are scheduled to take place with increasing regularity and changes in flight patterns may also be noticed as changing weather conditions play a significant role in which runways are operational.
Pilots at Pax River are currently testing and training for realistic night flight scenarios. These events will include, but are not limited to, night vision goggle training, night precision approach and landing qualifications and low-visibility operational testing. Night testing and training is essential for the precision and safety of our military men and women and the success of their mission.
Due to testing requirements and winter weather conditions, increased noise levels may be experienced by the surrounding communities in Southern St. Mary’s and Calvert Counties. Operating hours at NAS Patuxent River are 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., all exercises will conclude by 11 p.m. unless approval is granted by the NAS Commanding Officer.
As with all operations, NAS Patuxent River takes precautions to lessen the impact of testing activities on the community. For more information call 1-866-819-9028 or email PaxNoise@navy.mil.
