Pedatrician who makes house calls

Does anybody know a pediatrician who makes house calls? I am planning to have a home birth this December and would prefer to have a doc come to my house instead of taking a 24 hour old newborn to a doctor's office. Does anybody know a practice that can do this? Thanks.

my guess is she doesn't want the baby exposed to all the colds and crap that walk into the doctors office during that time of year.

Maybe the person delivering your baby would know of someone. I'm assuming you are not delivering by yourself but who knows

Most peds will see newborns early in the morning before office hours. Is this your first child?

This is our third child, we are using the midwives from Birthcare in Alexandria, VA to deliver this baby. They will come here and I thought that was a better alternative to driving either to Alexandria,VA or Annapolis,MD for a midwife assisted birth (since there aren't any who deliver here in St Mary's). Our first child was born in a hospital, our second in a midwifery center within a hospital so I guess a home birth is just sort of a natural progression for us. I am low risk and if something comes up during the pregnancy that disqualifies me from doing a home birth, I will go back to an OB who works out of St Mary's hospital.

I am not crazy about taking my hours-old newborn to a ped in mid-December if I can avoid it, which is why I am asking if anybody knows of any who do housecalls. Our other children are seen on base and we are happy with them, I am just a little worried that if I deliver on a Friday after Med Records is closed, I will not be able to get my newborn into the ped for hearing and PKU testing until Monday and we all know how crazy a Monday morning during flu season can be. The midwives and birth assistant do all of the initial newborn tests (the eye drops etc) at the birth and they do come back about a day later for follow up at home.

Just Giving My Opinion
I went to High School with one of the Dr.'s at the Midwife Center in Alexandria. Dr. Jackson - I believe. Ask her if you can have ped dr's visit the baby after the birth.

Thanks! I should have asked at my appointment yesterday, I will ask at next months appointment.
You should email or call them now while you are thinking about it. It should only take the folks in the office a few minutes to attach a note to your file so it'll be one of the 1st things the Dr. sees when you go in next time.

Thanks! I have a notebook that I take to each appointment (which I log my daily food/exercise in) and have already added it to my list of questions.

my 2 week old was born at sb...unassisted though ;D
just curious..if youre crunchy enough to have a hb on purpose, why do you want the eye drops and stuff for?? you can pm me if you want, im genuinely curious though! or are you not crunchy, but just dont want to travel? i never want to be in a car again in labor, the first time, i was induced, this time i was in natural labor and omg i wanted to strangle my mom (who was driving) because her navigationaln thing decided to take every back road known to man between here and arnold! i would totally understand that aspect LOL!!

i asked at birthcare but they were full. :sigh: and i was NOT doing the hospital thing again! especially st marys, sorry buddy, they try to kill me and my baby when i was sick, im not giving them the chance to do it again!

i hope you and your baby have a great birth!

and err...the docs offices dont do hearing tests, at least i was given a sheet that said they would have to refer me to somewhere to get it done, glen burnie is one of them. i

The term is generally used to describe women who subscribe to the "all natural" mindset of childbirth and childrearing. "Crunchy" mothers typically go for a low/no intervention vaginal birth, decline or delay vaccinations, breastfeed exclusively, etc.

I had a home nurse come in and do a check up at my house. I was pretty sick and my insurance paid for a visiting nurse to come in twice a week while I was on bed rest to check on me and the baby. Then after the birth they came to my house and gave her a check up.

Maybe you could check into that. I had a midwife even with the high rick pregnancy.
