Search Continues for Van/Driver That Struck Victim

A pedestrian struck by a van in Brentwood in late August has died of his injuries. He is 85-year-old Cornelius Phillips of Northeast Washington.

On August 26
th, at approximately 6:00 am, patrol officers were called to the 3400 block of Bladensburg Road for a collision involving a pedestrian. The pedestrian, Phillips, was rushed to a hospital with critical injuries. When officers arrived, the striking vehicle was not on the scene. It is possible the driver did not know he or she struck the victim. Investigators are still working to find the vehicle and identify the driver.

(not actual van)

Evidence left at the scene – a driver’s side mirror - indicates the striking vehicle is a 2015-2019 Ford Transit van. The color is unknown. It is possible the van has or had other minor damage to the driver’s side front corner.
