Peditricians in Southern Maryland

Hello there,

My family(including my 7 month old son Kolton) have just been stationed at Andrews and have deciding that living in Mechanicsville and SM county is a perfect fit.

The question I have is we are going to find a local Peditrician and was wondering if anyone could recocomend a local pediatrican that has been around for a while and is trustworthy.

If you don't have any experience but do know of some that we should stay away from you can suggest those as well.

Thank you so much for your help,

Adam

I wish I could give you some advice but we will be looking for one soon as well when our insurance changes (can't use the same one now since they are military) I'm assuming that you aren't able to use the ones on base there at Andrews? My daughter had to see a pediatric specialist there a while back and he was excellent.

All I ever hear about are Dr. Sheth and Dr. Dhillon - and I know both are VERY busy and I also know that Dr. Dhillon is getting up there in years. That doesn't matter to me but I doubt he'll still be practicing in 15 or so years? Guess you never know....

Anyway, I'd love to hear OTHER options besides those two. I'd rather stay away from the 'Shah' empire but I don't know if that's even possible down here. I'd be willing to drive to Charles or Calvert for a good pediatrician though.

I take my kids to Dr. Patel in Leonardtown. I had Dr. Ila Shah in the past and my youngest just did not like her. I have been with Dr. Patel for about 2 years and my youngest likes going to see him. I also have heard that Dr. Dillion (sp??) is really good too. He wasn't taking new patients about 2 years ago, but he might be now. I wish you good luck in your search!!

We use Bayshore as well, and LOVE them! I used to take my kids to Dr. Dhillon, but after waiting for 3 hours in the waiting room before my SCHEDULED appointment, I was done. That was the last straw, among many other annoyances.

I will say, at my FIRST visit to Bayshore with my son, we accomplished more than we did at Dr. Dhillons office for 6 weeks...

His nurses are super sweet, and he is a nice man, but I think he just has too many patients to be able to give the level of care that I expect.

I hate that.. You have an 8:30 appointment and He doesn't show till 9.. Or it takes an hour to be called back to only wait even longer to see him for 2 minutes... When this next one is born I'll be switching to another Dr. My daughter has one more appointment with him in July for her shots and Im switching her as well.. I was thinking Dr. Patal because he's close to home..Still unsure!

I use Bay Shore Pediatrics in Prince Frederick. I love them!

:yeahthat: We go to Bay Shore Pediatrics also, specifically Dr. Singh, however I've heard that the other two doctors are also great. So far I've brought our son there three times, never waited longer than 5 minutes. The support staff is wonderful and their NP calls me right back if I have a question or concern.

We use Dr. Khetpal, she is at Breton Medical which is affiliated with the Shah's but I really like her. I haven't had that long of a wait ever & she is great with my kids.

Both my kids went to Dr. Sheth. He's great!

oldest went to Sheth, we stopped taking her there. The staff is rude (especially his wife) & the nurses were short with her. He misdiagnosed twice for the same thing (said was nothing when she had Bronchitis) Went to Sheth on Friday & Monday had to go to Dhillon cause she was worse & Sheth was on vacation. I do not care for Dr. Sheth at all & the 3 hour wait for Dhillon is quite frequent from what I've been told.

That's true.... It's not worth the wait and bringing home germs that kids picked up in the waiting room for 3 hours.

I have been to Sheth, Dhillon and Miller and can not brag on any of the offices. Dr. Miller had the worst staff, Dr. Sheth would be runner up for worst staff. Have not been to Dhillon in years and I do not remember his staff being rude. I knew a girl that worked there and she said he automatically does throat cultures on every child, every appointment to do a quick strep test to get the insurance benefit. He was constantly late. I know they do hospital rounds but it was ridiculous. You think you are safe getting the first appointment of the day but that is far from the truth.

Dr. Sheth is cool but his staff nothing to be desired. If they do not like working with kids then get a different profession. God forbid you have a question cause they could care less and his wife could throw flames out of her evil eyes.

I have ranted about Dr. Miller's office before. I'll just say it is not a pleasant atmosphere.

Is it possible to have a good doctor and a pleasant staff?? I have given up hope

we have seen Dr Dhillon for the 5+ years we have lived here, and we have had to deal with the 3 hour wait, and sometimes its no wait at all... I go back and forth with him because I understand things come up last minute... but my son has to go every month for his ADD refill, has to have an appointment, he spends all of maybe 5 minutes with him, I know its quick, they know it quick, I had to wait a week once for his appointment, and that was after we were out of town for a week, so he was off his meds for over a week, poor planning on my part, but they could have snuck in his 5 minutes somewhere... when we did get an appointment it was for 8:30, we were there by 8:15, the first people there... Dr D showed up about 9:15ish, and still we weren't the first seen... how that happend I don't know, but I was pretty ticked off... add to that my one son had the bad staph skin infrection, what is it MRSA or something, and it was bad, and he wouldn't do anything for it, said it was caused by overprescribing antibiotics... I waited as long as I could and finally broke down and went to a dermatologist, she gave him a soap/cream and a script and he was cleared up in about a week, and I'm talking all over his legs... huge puss filled pimplely/boily things... it was horrible... so I've had my ups and downs... and I've actually been on the look out for a new Doc for the kids, but I do like Dr Dhillon and his staff, but sometimes it just is too much... there's no reason to schedule 4 kids for the same 5 minute appointment... and for the ADD refills, were in and out... it shouldn't take 3 hours, thats time out of school that a kid with ADD doesn't need if you ask me !!!!

Good luck...

Another :yay: for Bayshore Pediatrics! We also see Dr. Singh regularly, but have seen Dr. Skolnick and his wife, Dr. Chiu. They are all very good and great with the kids. Dr. Chiu even met us at the office on a Sunday once to do a throat culture so that we wouldn't have to go to urgent care. The wait for appt. times is minimal and they now have "sick hours" in the evenings (Mon-Thurs, I believe) for walk-ins. In case it hasn't been mentioned, they are right next to Calvert Memorial. I highly recommend them.

I just want to add that they have the walk ins in the evening but they still do same day sick appointments during the day. I have nothing but great things to say about Bay Shore. I have had experience with all three pediatricians and they are all very personable and great with the kids. And the staff is very nice as well. I have been going to them for 4 years (since the birth of my first) and have never had an issue that I can remember anyway.
I have never waited more than 5-10 minutes for a well visit. I think the most I have waited for a same day sick visit was 15-20 minutes (not bad at all considered they fit you in same day).
Now there can be a walk in wait but that all depends, like with any urgent care, walk in, etc, on how many people show up. It's been almost immediately after signing in or upwards of an hour. But that is not really in their control.

We also go to Bayshore Pediatrics. We mostly see Dr. Chiu (she is awesome) and sometimes her husband, Dr. Skolnick. Everyone there is awesome.

It's not HaHa time....
I also use Bayshore Pediatrics. Dr. Singh has seen my girls since they were released from the hospital.... One of the few docs that saw preemie babies, let alone twins. They have been awesome when dealing with us and answering my questions, which at times can be a long list. I love how friendly the staff is and my girls arent scared to go to the docs because they have so much fun there. They dont like shots, but I "forget" to mention that until they bring the shots in the room and then I bribe them with ice cream or something like that after they are done....
