I'm on the fence. I know that churches are tax exempt, not sure if they actually get money from the state or fed, and if so how much. In general I probably have no issue kicking in because I see them as a community resource, much like any other nonprofit org. And like any other nonprofit, they have a specific demographic they serve.

I agree with you wholeheartedly about these megachurches and their uber wealth. It annoys me to no end that these "preachers" are living large by panhandling from the poor. BUT! Nobody puts a gun to their head and forces them to donate. If they weren't sending their bucks to televangelists they'd probably be sticking it in a casino slot machine or giving it to some Nigerian scammer. Dumb people do dumb things, and I've always said that if people are stupid someone should be able to make a buck off them. Hell, look at Al Sharpton.

As I said before, our tax dollars go to all sorts of things that many of us cannot take advantage of, nor does it benefit the majority of Americans. Just the way it is and your sister isn't special.

That is true. I've heard people call the lottery a "stupid tax" ( even though i like to buy a ticket and fantasize now and again) and I think donating to these mega churches so pastors can fly around the planet and screw mistresses is pretty much the same.

I just think we disagree on whether or not being barred from using a service that my own tax dollars go towards is the same as not using because i don't need it or want.
