Permanent standard time?

Some pretty significant news dropped this afternoon, Trump announced that the US will eliminate Daylight Savings Time and Tom Cotton is starting to get Congress to get behind the measure

I’ll miss the long Summer evenings when the sun set around 8:30, I always liked getting to enjoy that extra time in the warm weather. That also means the sun will rise at 4:40 am in June…but I trust the American people and they trust Trump, I’ll adjust.

I wonder why Trump is taking this on? Some pro MAGA accounts are now pushing for permanent DST.

I’ve never seen what the big deal about the time change is anyway, seems like such a minor thing with big benefits. The complaints come from soft folks, have you never worked shifts? Never traveled one time zone? It’s not a big deal at all.

We’ve changed time for over 100 years and it’s part of being a civilization. He won’t get this passed and should give it up, the uprising for DST this quickly is proof that it isn’t a battle worth fighting.

I can't wait for permanent Standard Time. Latest sunset of the year (approx July 7) will be 7:40 PM. That should reduce my 23 weeks of Monday evening disc golf league to a much more manageable 8 or 9 weeks.

i love the time changes. I don’t want to here any bitching from you all that hate the time changes when we no longer have daylight until 8:30-9pm in the summer or when your kid is getting on the bus in the dark during the wintertime. Be careful what you wish for!

I do like the time changes, but, as stated above if they have to do it, I would prefer DST. To me, it signals the change of seasons, spring/summer coming or fall/winter coming. I really have no issues with it staying.

“They have to do it”

Who? Who has to change anything? He isn’t king.

He has to find something to bitch about.
He’s not even sworn in yet and is telling us the sun will never set again after 8pm in Maryland, yeah, that makes me upset.

Here are those “liberal tears” you folks are craving so much, the fact that my grandkids aren’t going to have late summer evenings out playing, yeah, that ticks me off.

My grandkids have daylight to about 11 PM in the summer. Their other grandparents used to have a nice cottage a bit farther north where it's daylight 24 hours in the summer.

For us in MD DST is a blessing, farther west in the EST its daylight until 10PM in the summer. I really don't look forward to it getting light at 4am and I get up at 5am to go to work.

One thing I really not a fan of is trying to travel down GMR in December with the sun right in my face getting off work.
