Article in today's Enterprise talks about how a Right to Life group had their permission revoked to place crosses on the lawn of the chapel on base. What I don't get...

Everyone & their brother knows that the crosses symbolize the deaths of the aborted fetuses everyday. Why is the group trying to link the crosses with Martin Luther King holiday???? The group states "We felt that Martin Luther King would have been a patron of the right-to-life movement" and "I think the people on base recognized the connection to Martin Luther King because it went up on the weekend before the holiday."

So now this group gets to decide what MLK would have thought and did with his life? My OPINION is that if their message can't stand on it's own right without trying to connect it with someone of MLK's stature, why display the message at all? I think they knew that if the sole reason seeking permission for the display was for the anti-abortion message, they never would have gotten permission in the first place...so they try to link it with the MLK holiday to add weight to their request. Wrong way to do it!!!!

I know....everyone has an opinion - opinions are like buttholes...everyone has one & they all stink!

:yay: that is just ridiculous. if you can't make your case without fabrication, then you didn't have one in the first place. i hate those crosses anyway. i don't feel they are appropriate. i always wondered what children said to their parents when they drove by. i would have a hard time trying to explain that to my kid.

My young daughter asked that very question last night when we passed the crosses set up in Leonardtown across from CSM on Point Lookout Rd...she told her that it was to honor those who died...and left it at that for now. She's way too young to have to think about abortion right now...let her enjoy what is left of her childhood first!

In fact, I believe the groups got their calendars mixed up. The Right-To-Life holiday is THIS weekend to celebrate/condemn the Roe v. Wade decision.

let's think about this

Why would you feel the crosses are inappropriate? Would they be inappropriate (on base or off) if the were in memory of soldiers? Whether or not you accept the personhood of the unborn, those putting the crosses up believe in that personhood.
There are ribbons, awareness days, sensitivity training for every issue on the earth, from domestic violence, to gay rights, to sexual harassment. Why should these folks not be allowed to put crosses on properties that belong to churches that teach a pro-life doctrine?
If someone has trouble explaining the meaning of the crosses, maybe it's because there is something inherently wrong with abortion.

I do see your point and as stated above everyone has an opinion. I personal believe that it is my body and the government cant tell me what i can and can not do for my health and wellbeing.

...

Do you take issue with the National Organization for Women, Planned Parenthood and NARAL claiming Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony, among others, as part of their history? These two founders of the feminist movement were pro-life, if you care to check it out.
I happen to agree that no one should claim to speak for another, but the crosses need make no apologies for being on the lawn of an historically Catholic church. Pro-life is a Catholic doctrine, after all.
