Peroxide on Dog Stitches??

JabbaJawz

Be about it
The dog was spayed on Thursday morning and her incision has looked great ever since. However, tonight I noticed that it's a slight bit red and a hair swollen. I'm not overly concerned since she's going to the vet at 11:30am tomorrow anyway, so I can certainly have them take a look at it then. I was just curious if it's safe to put a bit of peroxide on it to clean it up if necessary.

I think so PF.... When my Dog Kitty was bitten by the Black snake the Vet told us to irrigate the bite with Peroxide before bringing her in.

Be careful using peroxide and letting her lick the wound. It's like Ipecac for dogs. It causes them to vomit. I'd use neosporin. If a dog eats something they shouldn't you can use peroxide to induce vomiting.

I think that's only when given orally.... Not sure about the licking - just know Three Notch recommended it.

Yes, but it doesn't take much. Besides I thought anything dealing with licking was usually of the oral nature.

Right but if you research Hydrogen peroxide / Dogs it states pretty clearly that they won't take it orally without some pretty major forcing.

Just trying to help a sister... Don't need a stupid azz war over nothing k?
