Pet friendly stores/retailers

Some friends around the country started a dissucision on another board about stores and retailers where they live that are pet friendly. Not just for service dogs. Other than the usual chain and locally owned pet stores. It seems that most everyones Lowes and Home Depots are. Along with several Bank of America branches and book stores like Barnes and Nobles. Even someones Nordstroms had no problem with her bringing in her dog with her. Also many restaurants allow dogs to be in their outside seating areas. I do know that most stores in the old town area of Alexandria allow dogs in.
I already checked out the Lowes in LaPlata. I was out doing a pet therapy visit with one of my dogs yesterday and decided to stop in Lowes to pick up some stuff and they said no problem bringing him in. Also the wife wanted me to pick her up a few things at the new Christmas Trees Shop in Waldorf, so I I thought why not try again and was welcome with open arms. The manager there said usually people only bring in their small dogs, but she didn't see any reason not to. As we were leaving she commented that he was actually better behaved tham some kids that come in with their parents. I think that's probably the key. If your dogs are well behaved there won't be a problem.

So I wonder what local stores in southern Maryland are pet friendly.

I saw somebody with a 1 year old bernese mountain dog at Ace hardware in Lusby last week. Nobody seemed to mind. The dog was very well behaved though.

Really? I LOVE the idea of being able to take my well behaved dog in some stores that will allow it!

I believe Tractor Supply in White Plains allows dogs too!

I wonder if the Green Turtle in LaPlata would let a dog sit on the patio while its owners had lunch?

I have to agree. I wouldn't go out of my way to bring my dogs inside a store to shop with me, but if I have them with me and need to run in a store for a few things, it is nice to have that option instead of leaving them in the hot car.

I would definitely take my basset hound everywhere with me because of how well behaved he is, however, he is so long and big and he loves people SO much, I am afraid that he would get in his own way and knock stuff over.

Why would you want to take your pet into a store with you?

Why not? I love to take the little one with me whenever I can. It helps socialize her and I don't have to kennel her when I'm out running errands. She gets a ride and visits, and she lets me know when she's done socializing by hiding in her carry bag.

It is a great op to get your dog socialization skills that they may lack. Not everyone has a Peppers/Petco/PetsMart near them so stores that are ok with it are nice to have around.
