Pet store pups

My Sweetest Boy
I can't watch it!!! The part I heard made me want to cry and scream at the same time!!! :cds:

I only saw part of it...I can't stand things like that. I know several people who bought puppies at Docktor's Pet Center years ago only to have the puppies die or have severe health problems.

Docktors pet store folks called me many years ago, asking to buy my whole litter. Out of curiosity i asked what they were offering, and the guy said $13.00 per puppy is as high as they've ever gone for a "litter lot" then he asked me how many litters I could provide them and could i do it on a regular basis?

I will not go into pet stores that sell dogs and cats. It makes me so sad to see them in those cages. I rem one time I did go in and this poor little fur ball puppy was eating his own poo. I can't even watch that long commercial that comes on about animal abuse, and it's on alot, makes me nauseous. I turn the channel.... I can't even watch Animal Cops... :(

Don't ever watch the rerun of Oprahs's expose' on puppy mills and the man choosing which animals were going to be PTS at a shelter. It showed the animals in black plastic bags being dumped out of a dumpster. I could cry just thinking about it. I will never forget the images.

I just saw a program on The Philly ASPCA shutting down Limestone Kennel (puppymill) the poor dogs were in awful shape. 3 labs were each missing an eye....and it was a gentic issue, but he was still breeding them ...They also had a pet store owner that claimed his pups came from reputable breeders...but the reported traced them back to animal auctions in the midwest. he did not even know the breeder or puppies parents...he had over 200 complaints that puppies he sold were sick or had a congenital defect.

On the Oprah show, the puppy mill dogs were often referred to as "commodities".
In the "legal" sense they ARE property....but i had no idea people actually auctioned them like horses.

The Amish and Mennonites around here treat them like they would any other farm products for sale. Cages are right under the fresh(?) fruits and veggies.

i cant click on the link, but my parents bought us a Christmas Puppy, beagle basset mix from a chain petstore, thinking it was safer to get one from there cause they have "warrantys". they dont tell u if something goes wrong, theyll give u the money back but u have to give the dog back too :faint: apparently our Holly dogs mom was overbred, leaving our holly dog deformed with many health problems. one ear longer than the other, one front leg longer than the other, many intestinal problems and when we xrayed her spine, at the age of 2 the vet said her spine was so deteriated that it was like a 15 yr old dogs spine :bawl: constant vet trips, thousands of dollars later, at the age of 5 we had to put her down, she got sooooo thin, a skeleton, couldnt go to the bathroom normal ever, and was in pain :bawl: worst thing ever!

Pet store owners and breeders should be forced to face greater regulations and inspections when selling pets, or otherwise be relegated to selling only fish food and dog collars. Like everything else in this world, it takes just a few money-grubbing scum-buckets to ruin a good Norman Rockwell picture. When I look into my precious dog's eyes, there is more love and wonderment and mischieviousness and faithfulness than I ever could have imagined knowing before getting the little guy. They are so smart and feeling and caring that it is unthinkable that a person could look into a pet's eyes and not feel something very special looking right back at them. Just like a person, they are quick to size you up, but in no time at all, they trust you and will defend you and love you as though you were heaven sent just for them. I thank God every day for my little fellow. It's heart breaking knowing that so many sparkling little eyes will close without ever feeling loved.

I for one do not believe that a pet store should be allowed to sell dogs. It only leads to impulse buying and they do not care who the dog goes to. Most buy a dog they know nothing about and find they can't handle the breed and decide they don't want it anymore and it goes into the shelter system. If the dog is one of the few lucky ones it gets adopted or rescued by someone who truely cares about the dog. The only way to shut down the puppy mills is to ban the sale of dogs in pet stores.

I didn't think you could even buy pets at the mall anymore - haven't seen a "pet store" with dogs and cats in years.

Reminiscing:

When I was around 8 or 9, my auntie made the mistake of letting me roam around the Treasure City (discount store similar to a Wal-Mart) while she shopped. They had kittens in cages for 50 cents. I picked out a black kitten, paid for it, named it Blackie, and we had bonded by the time she found me, so she couldn't make me give it back.

Can you imagine that in this day and age, picking up a kitten or a puppy at the Wal-Mart?
