Yes? No? Maybe so? Where?

Yes, anywhere. Mountains or seacoast but bring bug repellant (and lots of it) if you are going to the interior! The seacoast is really nice and the lobstah and chowdah are to die for. Google camping Maine. If I had the time, I would do both the coast and the mountains.

I am so very blessed
We are camping in Massachusetts right now. Camping in a lovely luxury one bedroom apartment with all kinds of amazing amenities, about 15 miles from downtown Boston.

Now that is my kind of camping. :yay:

Oh, and get the heck off the forums! There is a rule against coming back to the mad house while getting away from the mad house, you know.

Sure, there are tons of great places interior and along the coast. Bugs? sure they have them but not that much worse than anywhere and they do respond to repelant. Boy and I hit many of the best places up there when he was young in our trusty pop up.

"The REAL Maine Begins East Of Ellsworth"...If you're up for the drive and want an area where you can see lots of what makes Maine great, try Cobscook Bay State Park. Part of The Moosehorn refuge is practically across the road, the real Moosehorn Refuge is about an hour away, Quoddy Head S.P. is about 30 minutes out, Eastport is about 45 minutes away unless you take the boat from Lubec then it's 15 minutes, Campobello Island (bring your passport) is about 35 minutes away, the ferries are open from CI to Deer Island to St. George in New Brunswick, plan to see St. Andrews-by-the-Sea in New Brunswick, terrific botanical garden and the Algonquin hotel, wonderful town! This area is not as well visited as the touristyer places, but the scenery is breathtaking, and the people are friendly, the food is good and you won't be disappointed unless the blackflies haul you off or it rains like hell...or the fog rolls in...Pemaquid is also very lovely and Acadia is stunning as well...And if you go Downeast, you can stop at all the Route 1 attractions along the way: Freeport, Brunswick, Bath: wonderful Maritime Museum in Bath, Moody's Diner, Perrys Nut House, the Penobscot Narrows Observatory: you MUST go up the tower!, Ft. Knox, swing by Bar Harbor, then right up thru Columbia Falls, the blueberry Barrens, Jonesboro, Machias, Cutler: lovely trip on the Bold Coast trail, then on to Lubec! The bugs will be MUCH worse inland this time of the year, they ease off the end of August as do the Rusticators...

I've been bit by mosquitoes all my life and greenheads in South Jersey but they just don't compare to these black flies. They come in swarms and for me they bite like a mosquito but then there is heated swelling with itching that last me at least two days or longer. They are also so small they fit through window screens. Being way out in Downeast country they are just something one has to put up with or else stay inside until their season is over with.

Maine is far more beautiful than I imagined. At least Kport and surrounding area. The flies are not as bad as I imagined. The mosquitos are worse. The lobster is better. Way better. Lobster rolls are a great way to get poor faster than becoming a junkie. O'Reilly's lobster co-op is the coolest place on the planet. So far. Bob gave us an amazing lobster 101. We took four back to the campground and ate them like barbarians, no tools. The shells just still soft enough. Lori has made the most amazing meals over campfires with cast iron, olive oil, peppers, onions, potatoes, garlic, basil, tomatoes, and, as it tends to dry down over an open fire, beer!!!

Did a sunset ride around the coast, past walker point, beach road, some stunning properties views, just amazing.

Send money. Please. Truck loads.

Oh, and most Maine-ers are friendly as can be. And there are the rude snob types that will tell you off while saying hello and they couldn't be nicer about it.

Growing up in Maryland, it is weird how few black folks there are.

Everything is in two languages: English and French.

Lots and lots and lots of bikes up here. Harley is, by far, the ride of choice. Way higher percentage than normal.

There is your update!!

I spent every friggin' summer of my childhood camping in Maine. I would rather stay home and shovel the horse manure than camp in Maine or camp anywhere...
