Pets as Christmas "gifts"

My business has been listed in the phone book as a pet shop and for some reason, I think it is superpages.com has been giving my phone # to people all over the country. It is not unusual to get 8 to 10 calls a day wanting to know if I have puppies or kittens for sale.

I want to scream and lecture...but instead encourage people to go to local shelters and petfinders.com to find a pet. Depending on how much time I have, I do try to talk to people about the importance of choosing the right pet for their environment and/or to NOT get "Mom" a dog as a present because they think she needs one!

Also, the need to spay and neuter...make sure the pet is vetted and microchipped.

A few people that have asked me what microchipping is, what shots dogs and cats need, etc, and it is sad. I am no expert but I hope to make a difference in some people's decisions. It is amazing how many people do not know where a local animal shelter is- a few days ago, I had one person from Los Angeles and another from Atlanta ask me if I knew where one was in their neighborhood!!

Hell-o!

With hopes of raising awareness and making a difference in the years to come....

Good for you!!!

Sadly, there are a good number of people here on this forum that do not bother to spay/neuter pets.
But on the other paw, there are many here that are involved in rescue work and do a fantastic job!!!
Krazt-kat is one of them and loves the dogs!!
I hope you can connect with them

I love the animals and my dog, and my daughter would have a house full if she could!!!

Keep up spreading the good news and trying to make a difference!!!

Merry Christmas!:howdy:

Yes, Krazd_kat is one of the people that contacted me regarding the adoption/meet&greet/educational events I will be hosting.

Kudos to you for taking the time to try and educate people.. It never ceases to amaze me how little people know about the animals they own and the responsibilities that go along with them. Then again a lot of those same people also have kids, and really shouldn't. All we can do is keep putting information out there!

Hope your biz is going well!

Thank you!
We are considering having the events every Sunday instead of every other Sunday since there are so many groups interested in attending. Please come by!
I should have a schedule made up very soon!

"I love the animals and my dog, and my daughter would have a house full if she could!!!"

We just adopted a 5 month old kitten from PAWS. Yet unnamed, he is quickly earning the nickname "ankle biter" I have never had a cat that attacked me like he does but he just wants to play...and the other 2 cats are still snubbing him.
3 cats, 2 dogs- think that is enough for now!
