PF was a CF Friday Morning

TPD

the poor dad
The new traffic light north of Walmart went into full operation. Northbound traffic was backed up from that light almost back to 231 about 8:30 Friday morning. Deputy at the intersection with numerous SHA guys. No one knew what to do - SHA guys were waving northbound vehicles through on a red light. Southbound turn lefters were just looking like WTF. Came back through an hour later and things didn’t seem much better.

And on the subject of Calvert County traffic, this morning CCSO was running radar at the base of the bridge in Solomon’s for southbound traffic. Not the first time I’ve seen this either but it’s got to be the most dangerous place for this. They are standing in the triangle area between the decel lane to the boat ramp and the acceleration lane to get on the bridge. Three or four deputies standing there with their vehicles - one holding the gun, another waving over the speeders, the rest writing tickets. The speeders have only a small area to pull into this triangle area, then blocking the view of those leaving the boat ramp to head over the bridge. Assanine move if you ask me. I think I will call the Sherriff’s office tomorrow to express my opinion on this.

And on the CCSO subject. At Ann Marie Gardens Artsfest this past weekend. There was the obligatorily militarized looking deputy, green fatigue pant, black shirt, sidearm strapped to his thigh, sitting on his ass for hours until closing time rolled around, inside the air conditioned main building, scrolling through and reading, what I'm guessing is the latest in TMZ news of the day about the Kardashians, on his smart phone. Rather than Sheriff Evans making these guys wear the original standard uniform with a tie, and walk about the event, being ambassadors for Calvert County, peace officers, during large and sizable peaceful events to foster, and garner, solidify, respect and trust. Instead of sitting on their asses, or walking a strut, trying to look like some muscle bound barney bad asses. The office of the Sheriff has really, and pathetically, changed for the worse, over the years under Evan's, lack of, leadership.

I can't say what it is like during the day, but driving through PF at night is practically a CF with all the paving going on. Blinding work lights, flashing yellow lights everywhere, chutes of orange cones, lane shifts, and workers practically standing in the only open lane.

I agree. I am on the road at 4am and it's usually a mess. I have gotten one nail and one industrial sized staple stuck in my tires so far and I told the tire place, I'll probably be back again as I'm sure I will pick up something else from all the construction.

Gotta keep the fear of god in those hippies attending.

Agreed, came thru there at 1am this morning, signage was horrible, lights blinding, intersections closed with no warning..With the progress made so far, hopefully this CF will be over soon.

It looks like a huge undertaking with paving from PF down to the Broome's Island light. I wonder if it is more than one company doing the work.

It's more than one company. The group doing the paving struggles whereas I think the company (Total) doing the PF reconstruction has been doing a pretty spot on job. They have had some lapses (odd spots) but for the overwhelming majority of the time, their work has been on point IMO. Also, do note - the public's issues with the lane shifts, stages and night work is all driven by the owner (Calvert County I'd assume or MD SHA - most likely the latter). And because of that, the price is substantially higher than doing the work during the day (and without the shifts). The value is in the reduced disturbance to the public. Reality is you can't have both. Low price, schedule and quality = pick the two you want.

I went up to PF Saturday morning around 10 and it wasn't bad. But leaving Dares Beach Road and turning left onto Route 4 south an hour later was dicey and traffic in the right lane was backed before Wally World. I don't even want to imagine traveling that at night nor during morning or evening rush hour.

I would have to imagine that their marching orders are not to interfere with either morning or evening rush. Hence the working at night.

Most likely that is correct. More so, they're probably work hour restricted between rush hours with several of those hours occupied by MOT implementation, equipment staging and other night time inefficiencies -both setup and removal. Night work sucks all around.

Awwwww. Ain't they all cute and the like? Boys and their toys. All dressed up without a war to go to. But that black truck sure do look all scary. Absolutely no justification of crap like this. When ever I see these guys, most often times at the county fair, CMM concerts, or on the Island, I'll laugh and smile right at them. They do give me their nasty mean macho look back of course. They, and Evans, are a joke. Next person that runs for Sheriff should run on a "peace officer" platform, and not the, 'war footing', 'you better fear us', BS platform we've had for years now.

What are you, the fashion police, Twinkle Toes? You really feel threatened by the way they dress? Grow some balls! Sounds like you might be up to something and the paranoia sets in when you are around them...

Is that you, Craig Kontra? You sound like a jilted lover - what's really wrong - did you apply and not get accepted into the police force?

Come on Hank. I'm not a boot licker like most blindly supporting "law enforcement". Is there a need for those that would investigate crimes committed against citizenry? Is there a need for peace officers? Yes. But there is no need to have what basically is a standing Army under a Sheriff that has utilized mission creep to the inth degree. There is no more community policing. Only jack booted thugs dressed solely to intimidate and instill fear and obedience in the people supposedly they serve. Balls? I've got plenty big balls. Seems it's you that are lacking.
