PGPD PGPD Arrests Suspect in Connection With Fatal Shooting in District Heights

The Homicide Unit has identified and arrested a suspect in connection with a fatal shooting in District Heights that occurred in early February. The suspect is 25-year-old Mikel Kennie of District Heights. He’s charged with the murder of 24-year-old Nathaniel Hampton, III of Upper Marlboro.

On February 2, 2022, at approximately 12:10 am, patrol officers responded to the 6500 block of Hil Mar Drive for the report of a shooting. The decedent was located inside of a vehicle suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead on the scene.



The preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect and the decedent were known to each other and the shooting occurred during a drug transaction.



Kennie is charged with first degree murder and related charges. He is in the custody of the Department of Corrections on a no-bond status.
