Detectives with the Homicide Unit identified and arrested the suspect responsible for fatally stabbing a man in Riverdale early Sunday morning. The suspect is 16-year-old Luswin Alonso Espino of 5100 block of Kenilworth Avenue. He is being charged as an adult in this case. The victim is 45-year-old Jose Vasquez Lopez of Riverdale.
On March 22nd, at approximately 12:30 am, patrol officers were called to the 5400 block of Carters Lane in Riverdale for a reported stabbing. When officers arrived on the scene, they located the victim who was suffering from trauma to his upper body. The victim was pronounced dead on the scene.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the victim walked up to a witness and the suspect. While the victim was talking to the witness, with whom he is related, the suspect attacked the victim. The motive for the attack remains under investigation.
