The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit is continuing to investigate a shooting that occurred November 21, 2020. The victim is 26-year-old Demonte Ward-Blake of District Heights.

On that date, around 7:00pm, officers responded to a shooting in the 5200 block of Marlboro Pike, District Heights. Once on scene, officers observed Ward-Blake with what appeared to be three gunshot wounds to the abdomen. A second victim was located suffering from gunshot wounds to his upper torso and jaw.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Ward-Blake and a second victim were loitering outside of an establishment when they were fired upon. Officers on scene rendered aid to both victims before they were transported to a local hospital.

Ward-Blake died August 1, 2021. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death. Detectives are still working to determine a motive and suspect(s) in this case.

In a separate incident in October 2019 Ward-Blake was placed under arrest after it was discovered he was driving on a suspended license. While being searched by Police Officer First Class Bryant Strong, a brief struggle ensued and the officer took him to the ground. Ward-Blake suffered an injury during that take down. As a result of Ward-Blake’s injury POFC Strong was indicted on charges of second-degree assault, misconduct in office and reckless endangerment.
