PGPD PGPD Investigates Fatal Collision in Chillum

The Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal vehicle collision in Chillum early Sunday morning. The victim is 34-year-old Matthew Atayi of Hyattsville.

On November 11th, at approximately 2:10 am, patrol officers were called to the 6900 block of Riggs Road for a single vehicle collision. The preliminary investigation reveals the car was traveling southbound on Riggs Road, when for reasons that are under investigation, the driver lost control and struck a utility pole. The victim was a passenger in the car. He was pronounced dead on the scene. The driver suffered what appear to be non-life-threatening injuries.
