The Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal crash that occurred on February 13th in Lanham. The deceased driver is 45-year-old Tafari McPherson of New Carrolton.
On February 13, 2021, at approximately 8:40 pm, officers responded to the Whitfield Chapel Road and Rolling View Drive for a collision involving two vehicles.
The preliminary investigation revealed the McPherson was traveling southbound on Whitfield Chapel Road when a second vehicle traveling northbound on Whitfield Chapel Road lost control of their vehicle due to unfavorable weather conditions. The second vehicle struck McPherson vehicle on the driver’s side causing the vehicle to leave the roadway and ultimately striking a stop sign. McPherson was taken to a local hospital. McPherson died of his injuries on June 4th. The driver of the striking vehicle suffered what appear to be non-life-threatening injuries.
