The Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal crash that occurred in Riverdale Park. The deceased driver is 43-year-old Checcia Durham of Washington, DC.
On May 5, 2022, at approximately 2:40 pm, officers responded to East-West Highway at 44th Place for a single-vehicle collision involving a garbage truck. The preliminary investigation revealed Durham was driving eastbound on East-West Highway approaching the intersection of 44thPlace, when for reasons that are under investigation, she struck a curb causing the truck to overturn. Durham was pronounced deceased on the scene. The two other occupants in the truck were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
