PGPD PGPD Investigating Fatal Bicycle Collision in Capitol Heights

The Prince George’s County Police Department is investigating a fatal collision involving a bicyclist that took place on Tuesday afternoon in Capitol Heights. Investigators are working to identify the deceased bicyclist. The involved driver, an on-duty officer with the Metropolitan Police Department, remained on the scene. The officer was driving an unmarked MPDC vehicle.

On October 27, 2020, at approximately 4:30 pm, patrol officers responded to the area of East Capitol Street near Southern Avenue. The bicyclist was located suffering serious injuries. He died a short time later at a hospital.

The preliminary investigation revealed the officer was traveling westbound on East Capitol Street approaching Southern Avenue. His emergency lights and sirens were activated. According to a witness, the bicyclist was initially riding his bike on the sidewalk along East Capitol Street and then entered the roadway into the lanes of travel. The collision took place seconds later.
