The Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal pedestrian collision in Capitol Heights. The victim is 43-year-old William Petty of no fixed address. The collision occurred on Saturday. Petty died of his injuries this morning.
On May 11th, at approximately 12:50 am, patrol officers were called to Central Avenue at Hampton Park Boulevard for a pedestrian collision.
The preliminary investigation reveals Petty was crossing Central Avenue when he was struck by an SUV that was heading eastbound. Petty was not in a crosswalk. The driver of the SUV remained on the scene. Moments after this collision, the driver tells investigators a second vehicle struck the victim as he lay in the roadway. The second driver did not remain on the scene and may not know that he or she struck the victim. We would like to talk to that driver. There is no description for that second vehicle.
