The Prince George’s County Police Department is investigating a fatal stabbing that took place inside of a home in the city of Bowie. The decedent is 57-year-old Samuel Lee West of Burlington, North Carolina.
On October 23, 2023, at approximately 7:05 am, Bowie Police Department officers responded to a home in the 2700 block of Balsam Place for the report of a residential burglary. The preliminary investigation revealed at least two suspects attempted to force their way into the home after pepper spraying an adult resident at the front door. At least one suspect had a gun. The resident stabbed one of the suspects when they made it into the foyer. The suspects then fled the home. The injured suspect was dropped off at a hospital where he died a short time later. Preliminarily, detectives do not believe this was a random incident.
Detectives are consulting with the Prince George’s County State’s Attorney’s Office to determine whether any charges would be appropriate.
