The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Fugitive Warrant Squad today located and arrested a man wanted in connection with a domestic assault and parental kidnapping out of Durham, North Carolina. The assault and kidnapping prompted an Amber Alert to be issued. The suspect is 22-year-old Emerson Melendez Rivas. PGPD officers located him inside of a relative’s home near 40th Street and Utah Avenue in Brentwood earlier today. The suspect’s two-year-old son was also in the home and was unharmed.

The Durham Police Department reported responding to a domestic call early Wednesday morning. The child’s mother was located suffering from stab wounds. That department reported the victim’s injuries are not considered life-threatening. The suspect then took the child and fled the scene.

Melendez Rivas is currently in the custody of the Prince George’s County Department of Corrections pending extradition to North Carolina.
