Highlights Administration’s Economic Recovery Initiatives

ANNAPOLIS, MDGovernor Larry Hogan today attended the Rural Maryland Council’s 2021 Rural Summit to celebrate Maryland’s rural communities. The theme of the biennial summit was “Redefining Resilience and Recovery” as rural communities continue to recover and respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“‘Redefining Resilience and Recovery’ means thinking outside the box and working together to deliver real solutions to the problems we face—and that’s exactly what we have been doing,” said Governor Hogan. “As we continue to move forward together, I have every confidence that not only will rural Maryland fully recover from this pandemic, but we are going to come back stronger and better than before.”

The Hogan administration has announced several initiatives to encourage economic recovery efforts across the state. These initiatives include Project Restore, a $25 million initiative that provides financial incentives for developers to revitalize vacant retail and commercial space, and Connect Maryland, a $400 million investment in broadband to fully address the state’s digital divide.

Since 1994, the Rural Maryland Council has addressed problems and challenges facing rural communities in Maryland and has administered the Maryland Agricultural Education and Rural Development Assistance Fund. The Hogan administration was the first in Maryland history to fund the Rural Maryland Prosperity Investment Fund, which provides critical grant opportunities that encourage a vibrant economy and connect communities across rural Maryland.
