ANNAPOLIS, MD—Governor Larry Hogan today participated in the groundbreaking of the MARC Riverside Heavy Maintenance Facility in Baltimore City, where he continued to push leaders in Washington to take bipartisan action on infrastructure. The governor was joined by Secretary of Transportation Greg Slater and Maryland Transit Administration Deputy Administrator Holly Arnold.

“For years, I have been urging leaders in Washington to take bipartisan action to rebuild, repair, and modernize America’s crumbling infrastructure in ways that will grow our economy, create jobs, and meet the needs of the 21st century, and here in Maryland, we have been leading by example for more than six years,” said Governor Hogan. “While the focus of our state and the nation shifted over the past year to the COVID-19 pandemic, it remains a critical time for us to continue our focus on the importance of investing in infrastructure in order to rebuild our economy, to create jobs, and to ensure a sustainable future.”

Upon completion, the 35,000 square-foot facility will enable MARC Train to perform its own locomotive and railcar maintenance, improve fleet reliability, and reduce overall maintenance costs and repair times. The governor celebrated today’s groundbreaking by operating an excavator to begin the building demolition.

As chairman of the National Governors Association, Governor Hogan led a national, year-long initiative—“Infrastructure: Foundation for Success”—focused on fixing America’s crumbling infrastructure. In February, he testified before the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works on the critical importance of infrastructure to America’s ongoing recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.
