—Governor Larry Hogan today wrapped up seven days of diplomatic engagements and economic announcements in Korea by meeting with officials from LG Corp., SK discovery, and Samsung Electronics and delivering a toast at a dinner hosted by the World Knowledge Forum.

Meeting With LG Corp. Vice Chairman and COO & Tour of LG Science Park. Governor Hogan began the day by meeting with Brian Kwon, the Vice Chairman and Chief Operating Officer of LG Corp., which operates a number of subsidiaries including LG Electronics, LG Household & Health Care, LG Chem Ltd., and Dacom Corp. LG Corp. focuses on electronics, chemicals, and household products manufacturing and telecommunications services.

Following the meeting, the governor toured LG Science Park—Korea’s largest R&D complex—where 24,000 researchers, engineers, and scientists work each day. The 26-building campus is located in Seoul’s Magok District.

Meeting with CEO & Tour of SK discovery. This afternoon, Governor Hogan joined SK discovery Vice Chairman Chang Won Chey and CEO Jaehyun Ahn for a working lunch and tour. SK discovery’s subsidiary, SK bioscience, has had a partnership with Novavax—a Maryland-based clinical stage vaccine company—since 2020 to manufacture and commercialize the Novavax COVID-19 vaccine throughout South Korea.

Earlier this year, Novavax and SK bioscience expanded their partnership to manufacture and supply an Omicron variant-specific vaccine.

Meeting with Samsung Electronics Leadership & Tour of Samsung Innovation Museum. The governor met with the president of corporate relations for Samsung Electronics, In-Yong Rhee, and the company’s executive vice president of global public relations, Wonkyong Kim, to discuss future growth opportunities in Maryland. Following the meeting, the governor toured the Samsung Innovation Museum, which showcases the history and future of electronics.

World Knowledge Forum Dinner. Governor Hogan wrapped up the day by delivering a toast at a dinner hosted by the World Knowledge Forum, which was founded in 2000 to bring together government officials, business leaders, and scholars to share knowledge and best practices on a range of topics. Attendees included former French President Francois Hollande and former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.
