American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials 2020 Washington Briefing
ANNAPOLIS, MD—Governor Larry Hogan delivered a keynote address yesterday to the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) 2020 Washington Briefing, where hundreds of senior transportation officials from across the country convened to discuss legislative priorities and policy matters.
The governor highlighted his National Governors Association chairman’s initiative, Infrastructure: Foundation for Success, to repair, expand, and modernize infrastructure in ways that will grow the economy, create jobs, and meet the needs of the 21st century. Through this initiative, Governor Hogan is drawing on the strength and innovation at work in the states by bringing together thought leaders from government, business, non-profits, and academia to come up with new ideas and innovative solutions to help solve American’s infrastructure crisis.
“The goal of my NGA infrastructure initiative is to harness that strength and highlight that innovation, not only to give the nation’s governors new tools, but also to use our influence to drive action from our leaders here in Washington on infrastructure—things like a federal infrastructure package and the reauthorization of the surface transportation legislation,” said Governor Hogan. “While we are all doing that, America’s governors and all of you will be continuing to lead, continuing to find solutions, and continuing to get things done in our states.”
AASHTO is a nonprofit, nonpartisan association representing highway and transportation departments in the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. It represents all transportation modes and works to educate the public and key decision makers about the critical role that transportation plays in securing a good quality of life and sound economy for the nation.
