ANNAPOLIS, MD—Governor Hogan today made several stops in Hagerstown, thanking health care workers at Meritus Hospital, visiting downtown businesses that benefited from Project Restore, highlighting new economic initiatives to the Chamber of Commerce, and touting a major investment in the rebuilding of the county’s Boys and Girls Club.
State Investing $2 Million to Rebuild Boys and Girls Club of Washington County. The governor toured the Boys & Girls Club of Washington County, which provides a safe place for local youth to participate in academic enrichment and character building activities. The Hogan administration has proposed $2 million in its capital budget for a major revitalization project for the building, as part of a more than $5 investment in Boys & Girls Clubs across the state.
Washington County Chamber of Commerce Lunch. Governor Hogan joined members of the Washington County Chamber of Commerce to tout the state’s economic progress, and discuss record investments in the region, including the Maryland Theatre expansion project, the $25 million Project Restore initiative, and the newly announced $50 million Rural Maryland Economic Development Fund.
Project Restore Businesses. Governor Hogan visited three businesses in downtown Hagerstown that have benefited from Project Restore, the state’s $25 million initiative to revitalize vacant retail and commercial space. The governor has proposed legislation to make the program permanent.
Meritus Hospital Center. During a visit to Meritus Hospital Center in Hagerstown, the governor presented a citation to healthcare heroes working in the COVID-19 wing, vaccine clinic, and monoclonal antibody site. Meritus Hospital Center built its $12.5 million “2 South Unit” in under four months at the beginning of the pandemic. The permanent ground level wing includes 20 negative pressure rooms and is lined with large windows to allow patients to see family members as they recover.
Maryland State Police Cumberland Barrack. On Tuesday, the governor toured the new state-of-the-art Maryland State Police Barrack in Cumberland. The Hogan administration provided $12.8 million for the project, which opened in July 2021 and incorporated the best practices in public safety design, such as an attached garage, radio tower, and enhanced security features.
