Annapolis, MD – Governor Larry Hogan this week joined elected officials from around the world, business leaders, and policy experts for the 2019 National Governors Association (NGA) Winter Meeting in Washington, D.C. As vice chair of the organization, Governor Hogan led and participated in a number of important discussions, including conversations with Canadian and Japanese dignitaries and business leaders on international trade.

“National Governors Association meetings are an invaluable time for all governors, both new and returning, to share information and hear from our nation’s top leaders on a wide range of issues,” said Governor Hogan. “As vice chair of the NGA, I am grateful to have the opportunity to discuss best practices with my fellow state leaders so that we can all govern effectively and deliver real results for our citizens.”

The governor introduced a number of speakers, including Lisa Gevelber, vice president of Grow with Google, who delivered a TED Talk about Google’s global economic opportunity program focused on workforce training, small business growth, and entrepreneurship. He also moderated a panel with Jamie Dimon, Chairman and CEO of JPMorgan Chase, who spoke about the future of the global economy and how states can continue to lead the way on growing jobs and preparing our workforce for a 21st century economy.

Governor Hogan also had a chance to join Chef Amanda Freitag and Chef Marc Murphy from Food Network’s Chopped and representatives from The Culinary Diplomacy Project for a lunch where he showed off his own culinary skills, preparing a dish with fresh Maryland crab.

First Lady Yumi Hogan joined the governor at the winter meeting, where she had the opportunity to share advice with first spouses from around the country. She joined a panel discussion about how first spouses can identify policy priorities and form initiatives to help the citizens of their state. She spoke about her passion for helping people find healing through art, including through her art therapy foundation Yumi C.A.R.E.S.
