ANNAPOLIS, MD—Governor Larry Hogan today toured the Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport’s new Concourse A Extension project, which is adding important services and amenities for Maryland residents and visitors as it remains the busiest airport in the region.

“BWI Marshall Airport serves as a critical engine for economic development and job creation,” said Governor Hogan. “Our investment at BWI supports Maryland tourism and trade. As the state and the travel industry continue to recover, I want to thank our dedicated airport employees who have worked so hard to provide healthy, safe travel for our passengers.”

The $48 million improvement project consists of a 55,000 square-foot, five gate extension to Concourse A, which serves Southwest Airlines. The project includes new airline holdrooms and jet bridges, upgraded restrooms, and three new food and retail concessions.

Passenger traffic has grown in recent weeks, with several days this spring among the busiest since the start of Maryland’s COVID-19 State of Emergency. On Thursday, May 13, the Transportation Security Administration screened 24,423 passengers at BWI, marking the busiest day since March 2020.
