ANNAPOLIS, MD—Governor Larry Hogan today toured Mars Symbioscience, a technology-based health and life sciences business located in Germantown, Md. Maryland’s life sciences industry includes 2,700 companies that employ 45,000 people and generate $18.6 billion in annual economic activity.
“Maryland is at the forefront of the life sciences industry throughout our region, around the country, and across the globe,” said Governor Hogan. “We are proud of Mars Symbioscience and the hundreds of life sciences companies that call our state home, which have set the bar for biotechnology innovation and fuel our region’s innovative economy.”
First established in 2005, Mars Symbioscience uses scientific research to inform Mars’ many business segments. It produces work including CocoaVia®, Mars Sustainable Solutions
, Mars Biomedical
, and The Mars Center For Cocoa Health Science.
Maryland is a national leader in the science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields. The state has been ranked third in the nation for research and development intensity and second for concentration of STEM employment, and is consistently ranked among the nation’s most innovative states.
