ANNAPOLIS, MD—Governor Larry Hogan today made several stops in Central Maryland to highlight the state’s continued economic recovery and leadership in response to COVID-19.

Governor Hogan learns about MITAGS’ maritime navigation simulator training programs.

The governor’s first stop was in Linthicum Heights, where he visited the Maritime Institute of Technology and Graduate Studies (MITAGS), which offers some of the most prestigious maritime continuing education programs in the country. MITAGS is also a valued partner with the Maryland Energy Administration in preparing job training programs to support the offshore wind industry.

Earlier today, Governor Hogan announced a new, three-state agreement with North Carolina and Virginia to advance the offshore wind industry in the region.

Governor Hogan also stopped by Soft Stuff Distributors, a woman-owned, family-operated business in Jessup. With roots in Ellicott City since 1984, the company is a recipient of a Maryland COVID-19 Emergency Relief Fund loan from the Maryland Department of Commerce.

Additionally, Soft Stuff Distributors was awarded $50,000 from the Maryland Department of Labor’s COVID-19 Layoff Aversion Fund for IT equipment that enabled the company to prevent layoffs by transitioning staff to telework. Soft Stuff also pivoted operations in response to the pandemic by adopting a curbside grocery service and expanding its e-commerce presence.

At his last stop of the day, the governor visited with members of the Maryland State Police Special Operations Division, as well as the Office of the State Fire Marshal, who have continued to protect and serve the people of Maryland on the front lines throughout the pandemic.
