All - there is a 4 yr old GSD in Silver Spring that needs a new home by next week. The man is needing to sell his home and will take him to the shelter if he can't find him a new home by then.

Regardless of my personal feelings on this type of thing - I'm willing to try to help this dog "Duke" find a new home. Below is the email I rec'd from him, I've removed his contact info but will be happy to send it via email to anyone interested.

Here is his email:

Dear XXXXX,

Duke has been neutered. He is 110-115 lbs.

I have a cat, he will chase her but he has never hurt her.

Being such a large dog, I would not put him in a home with young children.

Duke has basic obedience training. He is house broken, we have a dog door that leads to a large dog run.

Since my wife died (cancer) Duke has had a few set-backs, he has peed in the house several times.

When duke was younger he played in a field with other dogs, but I stopped this on my vets order due to a dysphasia in his front legs. Duke had surgery to correct this. He seems OK now.

I carry a cell phone, xxx-xxx-xxx. Please call if you need more information

Have you contacted www.magsr.org

They are a wonderful organization.
.

He said he had contacted GSD rescue, but I'll send them to him just in case. I told him that w/a donation sometimes the Breed rescues are more willing to come through.

I think that's the only picture he has since that's the only one he sent me.

They generally do not turn down dogs.

Do you have a contact there? He said he contacted them yesterday.

The girl I used to chat with isn't there but I've talked to others randomly. What did they tell him?

I don't think he's heard back from anyone, but he only tried yesterday. So it could take a couple of days.

It takes a few days. He should keep contacting them. Generally email is best. If he doesn't have a computer, I would suggest you send and email and explain the situation and give them the gentleman's information.

Magsr is not taking owner surrenders at this time. I rescued a stray female last night and called their number and their answering machine said they are not taking owner surrenders at this time.

Thank for all your help, Duke found a home, the owner drove him all the way to Virginia Beach to meet a family that had lost their older GSD only a few months ago.

You are right about that. They were contacted as well about Duke. The problem is too many pets (which people seem to think are disposable), and not enough foster homes for the rescues to help them all.

Are you going to try to hold onto this dog until you can find her a home?

But they will advertise them for you at least.
