Pick a part junkyards?

So, who still does this? I could call the three local automotive recycling facilities, but I'm lazy and figure folks here have the answers. A 1991 civic hatchback has joined the stable, and needs a few odds and ends. Time for the children to learn the fine art of junkyard hunting:) Also has the benefit of letting them see how fragile steel, glass, plastic and rubber really are.

Oh, of course I'll pay. But I like finding my own stuff. Then I know I have what I want. And I can practice the remvoal procedure on a junker first. That usually has much less crud in the way. And, the cross reference computers are not always as up to speed as I might be. Or I might be willing to go off the list for some stuff. Like a shift knob.

No, what I meant is that with the pick-n-pay parts yards I have been to in the past, the prices were lower than if you went to a we-pull-it parts yard. Brandywine is expensive no matter if you pull it or they pull it.

There is a place down Flat Iron road too. Don't remember the name but I do recall that for some strange reason, they aren't open on Saturday.

That's 'terd of hurdles' to you.

Hehe.

Let me know what you find out. I'm looking for a cheap place to pull engines and engine parts. Brandywine wants $1800 for a USED high mileage ford 4.0. I can get a friggin Jasper for 2700, for crying out loud!

Dont think any of them will let you pull a motor, but I'll ask when I'm making rounds. Lucky for me, the "new" 1991 Honda only needs a trans and axle.

Don't know about now, but three years ago Hollywood let me pull an engine for a 94 cavalier, they've changed owners since then though.

Well, I don't have to pull my own... I just think 1800 is a bit pricy for a run of the mill 4.0....

Hollywood let me pull parts for my last project - I mean - car. Not much of an inventory but well worth it. Call first to find out if they even have the vehicle/year.

Champions.....I don't think they will let you go in the yard....Call before you go anywhere...A lot of places will not let you in the yard because of insurance regs....

Couple years back, they did......what was that...oh, I remember now, it was a seat track for the sister in laws Ford Escort. I know they cite insurance regs, but I think its more they just dont want amateurs screwing up stuff while getting out other stuff. Like the guy who cant be bothered to actually unscrew or disconnect the terminals on the alternator, so he cuts the wire harness. They usually have pretty hefty disclaimers posted, that should cover them legally.

Update, finally found the time to get down to Champpions, no problem getting in. That was the good news. Bad news, if you want Honda parts, not a lot to choose from. Only maybe five Hondas, and two or three Acuras. Tons of domestic stuff, even Toyotas and Nissans.
