Pick your own apples

Heya!

I am looking for a pick your own apple farm within the area or within a 50 mile radius to somd for my girl scout troop to go to. They are trying to earn their apple picking patch and a pick your own farm would be perfect!

I do know that there are multiple farms in the area that have farmers market set ups- however to learn about the crops, the proper picking and picking of the actual fruit would be fantastic.

Any idea of any? I looked up on southern maryland so good and they gave a lot of VA farms that were over 2 1/2 hrs away. So- I wanted to see if anyone knew of any closer as these girls are Daisies, so I dont want to have them in the car for 4-5 hours if possible.

I remember stopping at a place up on Rt 5 about 3/4 the way from L'town toward the 235 junction. It's been a long time, have no idea what the farm name was.

Edit: Ah, maybe it was Forrest Hall like Islandgrl posted...

They are not just picking the apples. They are learning the process from start to finish about what it takes to work an apple farm, how to care for the crops, how to harvest and about the different kind of apples. The reward is to pick the apples and then get to use said apples. They get two patches for this event: the apple picking and the baking patch. Its a big thing for them.

When we were there a couple weekends ago they had up signs at the trees that said you could no longer pick your own tree fruit.

EDIT: I have to add that place is soo awesome. We go when we are camping at Westmoreland park. They have the best ice creams and deserts and it is so relaxing like you are with family.

Yeah the last time I knew of, they had stopped the PYO. Otherwise, I would be all over Forrest Hall. I love that place.

Usually you pick apples in the fall. First field trip of the year was a farm for apple picking, pumpkin picking, hay ride, etc.

We went to Milbrn Orchards which took our kids through the whole apple picking, sorting, selling process. Obviously Elkton, Md is a little far from Southern Md, but they did do a great job.
Milburn Orchards in Elkton, Maryland sells locally grown and pick your own fruits, berries, and fresh vegetables, and offers a variety of family fun on the farm.


Also, the book Apple Farmer Annie. Is a great Early reader about the apple farming process.
