Pig slaughter for our kids to see

"Was it necessary for kids, squeamish adults and others looking for a nice family television show to happen across an episode of slaughter of our St Mary’s pigs? To watch a helpless, caged animal scream and twitch on the ground with several people standing by waiting for it to die, brought my family and myself to tears."

My question is who had control of the remote? If it was your children then there is your problem...if you had such a big problem with the show then change the channel...about 80% of the stuff on cable is nonsense to me anyhow, but if YOU are not supervising your children then YOU as a parent are to blame of what YOU let YOUR children watch on YOUR TV!! YOU as a parent should have the common sense to see within a matter of seconds if a show is appropriate to watch or not...even if you happen to cross it flipping channels. Or you could look at the cable guide! If you are just letting your kids run wild, do whatever they want, watch whatever they want, say what ever they want...then your lack of involvement, supervision and proper parenting is whats wrong with children today. Today we live in this pre-packaged world of convenience and take for granted of how that package of thick juicy pork chops got to the supermarket! Turn off the TV, get off the couch, get off the computer and go outside and spend some quality family time with your children rather than spending it cooped up inside watching something that will offend YOU and YOUR family on YOUR TV! :banghead:

Since this crap started I've craved nothing but pulled pork. No lie. I've hit Early Bird twice for their pork BBQ sammiches. :yum:

To whom this may concern,
I have grown up in St. Mary’s county almost my whole life. I have come to live and understand the “good ol’ boy way of doing things in this historical county. The thing I love best about this county is that we as neighbors try to restore and cherish the history left behind for us all to appreciate. It is nice to know we as a community is preserving our land to keep farming as a major producer for this county.
I am writing to bring to the good neighbors attention, an issue with the local Metrocast cable network aired on March 6, 2008 at 9 pm on channel 10. For those who were watching that channel during that time and had to endure a painful sight of the slaughter of pigs for a pig roast back on November 26, 2004.
For the people of St Mary’s, they hold the right to show to others the traditions of how things are done in the country, however, what kids, family and neighbors don’t need to witness are the pigs, screaming, and scrambling around with a hole in their chest to “bleed out”.
Was it necessary for kids, squeamish adults and others looking for a nice family television show to happen across an episode of slaughter of our St Mary’s pigs? To watch a helpless, caged animal scream and twitch on the ground with several people standing by waiting for it to die, brought my family and myself to tears. This is something that no one needs to see happen in his or her cherished county. Again, it is one thing to see a pig roast where people gather to spend time with one another, but did we need to watch a pig suffer a horrible death for more the mere minutes? Does Metrocast feel that airing this will make people from other counties feel better about our county? To already have to live up to the name of “red necks” and “hillbillies” of Maryland, does this episode make us look any more civilized then exactly that???
When slaughtering animals for meat, usually the technique is to allow the animal to “bleed out”. May I still bring to your attention that the animal is still alive, fully conscious and aware of the pain of a gunshot or a stab wound to the chest. As the people who viewed this tragic event noticed that the pig looked like it was having a seizure and screaming while blood is pouring out of the hole in its chest, do we really need to see this on television? Does one really need to take the chance of having innocent unknowledgeable kids come across this channel while these pigs are being slaughtered? Is this what we want our kids of St Mary’s to witness and learn?
There is also another scene of a man cutting the nose off the dead pigs face. Was that really necessary to show everyone watching? Was there a point to prove in that? An act like that is what looses respect from neighbors and the public itself including other counties who hear about this.
I have completely lost respect for the people in the video, and Metrocast itself. It is one thing; again, to show people an event that means a lot to St Mary’s but the killing of several pigs could have been avoided and the respect would have been lost.
This letter is not here to tell people how to slaughter their pigs. I am writing this letter to ask why such a thing is being showed on our television? On the channel that shows family events like dancing, fairs etc., why does the slaughter of our pigs really need to be on there? On other channels that deal with animal slaughter or cruelty always block the image of the slaughtered animal. I just feel that to show this on television was unnecessary for viewers who look to this channel for local area fun.
Please, everyone who feels the same way, write to your local county delegate. I cannot stop this act on my own. We need to stand up for our image as county neighbors and have people respect our county for the history it holds and cherishes. If our county goal is to hold an image such as this, then I am ashamed to call my self a county resident and I therefore will be boycotting Metrocast and in particular Channel 10.
Thank you for your attention, this problem will not go away or ignored. I will keep bringing it up publicly until it is resolved.

Sincerely yours,

I'm guessing your kids live in a fantasy world? I guess you don't want your kids to know how things actually happen, you know, the "way it's done", been done, since man roamed the face of this Earth? Wake up.

I spent a lot of time on my grandparents farm, and I did play certain roles in the slaughter of the Winter beef and pork, I know what it's all about, but, city-folk just don't seem to get it, do you eat meat? If so, then I guess now you know where it all starts... before the Ketchup and relish got on it.

and I have had blood and guts on my hands from all kinds of animals, but, that's not what it's about.

DoDgEm!

PETA Pita is a bread) :howdy:

So that was a pig, interesting.

Your children should watch it, they should know where there food comes from. There was absolutely nothing wrong with what they were doing. I'm sure they have seen worse, in fact worse is the fantasy world you have them living in.
