It is reather funny to see a chicken going all over the place once you chop it's head off :lmao:

I know.......I'm sick and twisted.
my grandma was the one who usually held the head back in the day  (when she was a child...I don't recall hearing that anyone complained about that. It was life.)

Some people tend to forget that this is how we get the meat we eat.

This whole thread made me chuckle. I saw that last night, too - it was a bit of a shock to watch the head get split with an axe. Nothing delicate about the process. I kinda figured it would turn up here today.

I wasn't thrilled to see it unexpectedly, but I've hunted and fished enough to know where meat comes from and I wasn't offended by slaughter. I will add, though, that I didn't see the beginning of the tape. I don't mind that animals are killed for food, but I do feel strongly that they should be killed as fast & painless as possible. If this one was tormented or the death was drawn out unneccesarily, I would be offended by that.

And frankly, the pig was less scary that that old guy that talks through the cardboard cut-out. He gives me the heeby-jeebies.

I always found it sorta funny that people often talk about being offended by things like cutting off the head, or pulling off the hide. The animal is already dead. I'm not saying you are one of those people, it's just something I've noticed in the past, too.

No, the animals are not conscious. They are stunned with a captive bolt or electrocution (chickens, pigs, sheep). The movement you see is from the animals' reflexes.

I know the differences between something being alive and kicking and reflex. I studied it in my A.P. Biology class. These animals were getting up trying to get away, not a reflex that looks like muscle spasams. Not saying that what you said isnt' the case in most situations. Your right that is how it's supposed to be done and whats supposed to happen.

Link above takes you to a video of a cow fully alive and concious. I'm assuming its a good link, my work blocked me from looking at it.Sorry if it aint a good link!. DONT WATCH IT IF YOU DONT WANT TO! IT'S YOUR CHOICE. It is a bit gruesome for the faint at heart, reminds me of a scene from texas chainsaw massacre.

I remember when I was a kid that the guys down the street had killed a wild boar and they skinned it and hung it out before they dug the pit to cook it. I remember my mom telling me not to go over there but being a kid I did and boy I remember that to this day......I couldn't eat bacon or ham for years without remember that pig without its skin.

So no I don't think your a prude, its not a pretty sight to see an animal like that and it should not be on tv for public viewing.
When i was a kid i walked to and from school and during hunting season i would have to walk by what ever the neibor had shot hanging from a tree... How gross.

Ok, I watched the video. This was a KOSHER KILL. The kosher method is different than traditional slaughter methods. Kosher practice involves slitting the cows' throats and letting them bleed out. Cows bleed out very quickly. I think the majority of animal thrashing you see is due to reflexes.

Take a look at this study done by Temple Grandin, one of the most well-known animal behaviorists (and welfare-ists-is that a word?). She works all over the country to help set up humane animal treatment practices in slaughter houses and farms.
