Places to (and not to) buy gear online

staring into the abyss
Since I've been gearing up lately I thought I'd share some reviews of online web sites to buy stuff. I ended up buying everything I needed on the web since there are only a few places locally with any kind of selection.

  • Ride Gear (ridegear.com): Do not ever buy from these people. They're very good at two things: promising and charging your card. To be fair they're also fantastic at ignoring phone calls and pretending to have gear they don't really have. So that's four things. Seriously, they used to be a great store (allegedly) but have either become a scam front or got taken over by morons.
  • Motorcycle Closeouts (motorcyclecloseouts.com): Fast and cheap. I got a jacket and some gloves from them and had a shipping confirmation with tracking number w/in 24 hours both times.
  • Iron Pony (ironpony.com): I never actually got anything from IP, went to them on the advice of a friend who got some gear and raved.
  • New Enough (newenough.com): They're highly rated, didn't have the size I wanted but were very friendly and I got to a human being (helpful human at that) when I called.
  • Chaparral (chaparral-racing.com) is another site that I didn't use but a buddy did. They have a nice catalog and seem to stock damn near everything.
  • EBay (ebay.com) is... well, ebay. You get what's there and you hope for the best. I used this for parts and upgrades and a few minor bits. I've never been scammed on ebay but it is what it is: a garage sale. There are quite a few shops who use it as part of their store (iron pony above, for example), so it's not all used junk that got dragged through dead skunks and cat piss.
  • Bike Bandit (bikebandit.com) is mostly parts, they send you elsewhere for gear. They did have my fuel pump to me at the best price I could find on the internet ($30 than picking it up locally).
  • Two that I had on my list but have no info on are Sandhills: sandhillspowersports.com and MS Superstore: Motorcycle Superstore - Motorcycle Accessories and Motorcycle Gear

Hope this helps, additions and further comments welcome.

i've bought through newenough.com in the past. would recommend them for gear :yay: most of the stuff is overstock or last years model but at great prices.

bikebandit.com was good for buying parts for my 90 yamaha WR200 (werent too many of those) and they had every part i needed. recommend them as well :yay:

I bowl overhand
I sound like a broken record, but try Annapolis Motor Sports.. They beat online tire prices, AND beat everyone (including online) price for my Nolan Helmet.. beat most by over $100.

They may not have it in the store, but anything you want they can get in the store the next business day. They treat me great...I calll them, tell them what I need, and they call me when it comes in.
