okay so i know the hvfd USUALLY has them, but I was just there yesterday and the day before and the cones were gone. I've been told there is another place, in leonardtown behind the true value, but i wanted to make sure this was correct. any one know for sure?

Fer teaching my daughter, we used the GMHS parking lot. There are trash barrels that I repositioned to simulate the cars for her to park between.

MVA in Leonardtown, where you renew your licenses and take the driving test, think the Auto Zone in shopping center there where the McKays is also has an area off to the side.

I am pretty sure the MVA does not allow practice, there are signs to that effect, I think.

In front of bldg 409 on base. Real practice with real cars. Including the one the CO drives.

I used my mom's plastic deck chairs in the driveway when I was learning. Luckily, I was decent at it when going slow and no one was watching me. Now I try to avoid parallel parking at all costs, I always feel like people are watching and judging.

You can go to Dicks and buy some orange cones and create your own spot, or as someone suggested trash cans. Turn any driveway, side street or parking lot into a place to practice.

Calvert Country School on Dares Beach Rd. Has a place all set up. Cones and lines. Only after school and weekends.

I had to parralel park just yesterday and did a fine job getting my Jeep in that little space. Grandma behind me sitting in her car was steady watching me waiting for me to play bumper cars with her, but didnt happen. A+ for me.

Those cones aren't free

Taking those cones is called theft. They don't belong to you and if you're caught taking them, you will be charged.

Please ignore this idiots advice that might land you in jail!

Pet peave.

EVERYONE agrees that everyone on the planet SUX at driving (except for ourselves) so, there is universal consensus that this is one area we need ongoing education and training in the smooth, safe and efficient operation of motor vehicles.

And that department doesn't even allow practice.

And we're gonna get term limits/agreeable economic policy how???

I would think barrels would do a lot more damage to your car than the soft cones.

Sure would. And even so, my daughter learned it just fine, start wide, then once the concept of when to crank which direction is nailed, tighten it up. This was with a 99 Blazer and a 2006 Charger.
