What school would you recommend?

Hey, guys......wanted to see if you could help me out here.
I need to register my oldest child into Pre-K for the 2009-2010 year. He is currently in Nursery school and I have been put on a waiting list for him to attend Pre-K there. I have been told I should seek back up schooling in case I can't get into where he attends now (not happy about this at all). I am nervous. I have no idea where to start. I went to the website for Charles County Schools and looked around, but I feel I would do better with advice from people who have kids that have gone to these places.
I would prefer a private school, BUT one that concentrates more on education than religion. I am also open to the possibility of public school if the school is known to be a good one. I am looking for something close to me, I live in LaPlata. I need to call student services tomorrow and see what school zone I am in. (Can I pick the school he goes to or it is chosen for me?)

Can anyone recommend a good school, public or private, and can anyone warn me of the places that shouldn't be first preference?? Any help would be a godsend. How else does a new parent know how to choose these things? Thanks everyone!

If there are any in St. Mary's county that are private and close to me, that would be fine. I looked and didn't see any but if anyone knows of any I would love to know about it! He attends a private nursery school in St. Mary's county right now.

Both of my children are enrolled in Building Blocks of Faith Preschool. My son (just turned 5) is in his second year there and my daughter (age 3) is in her first year (she will also attend the 4 year old program next year). I am very pleased.

Wow that sounds great. This is another reason why I am posting this, I didn't even know this place existed. Thank you so much! I will add this school to my great possibilities!

My littlest also goes to Building Blocks of Faith. Wonderful school.

If your kids are districted for Charles County, personally I'd want my child to make friends they would go to school with. Once the end of Pre-K hits and you're off to a different school with no familiar faces would be scarey. Take a look into Saint Charles First Baptist Preschool. Their kindergarten teacher is wonderful and has experience.

Also the Grace Bretheren church on Route 5 near the Longwood gardens Nursery by Billingsly Road is a private school.
