Many reasons, but mainly because it would have been awkward for her. But the fact is that everyone had a veto on guests and she used hers on this person. Plus it's her damn wedding.

Reguardless when she made it clear this person was not welcome for my mother to go behind her back and invite her anyway was complete bullsh!t

My family drives my husband crazy, but he deals with it because they are important to me, same goes with me and his mom and dad. Because. no matter how grating each of their quirks are sometimes, the fact of the matter is, we are both fortunate to have family.

My week has been turned upside down because relatives from out of town decided to pop down for the week. They are certifiably Sure I had other stuff I had planned on doing, but they drove 8 hours to visit with us, so the least I could do is give them my time. :shrug:

It serves no positive purpose to be crappy to your family. There, now you have my guilt trip. Now go give your mother a hug, maybe you'll pass on your cold and she can share in the misery.

I can't read these threads anymore, with people talking out their ass about stuff they know nothing about. Just because you personally have/had a wonderful relationship with your parents doesn't mean everyone does. Just because your personal mother was good to you doesn't mean there aren't women out there who live to torment their children. Just because your personal father was a good man and you miss him every day doesn't mean there aren't some fathers who were worthless pieces of #### and their kids are glad they're dead.

I believe even the best of relationships are strained when you are incredibly ill. It sounds as if this relationship was tenuous at best, and the situation is worse if the visitors expected the sick family to act in a "host" fashion.

I will be that mother someday. If my kids grow up to be all shiatty to me, I'll impose myself on them, just as they imposed themselves on me for 18 years. Fair is fair. :shrug:

Parents set the tone for parent/child relationships. I doubt your kids will grow up to be shiatty to you because that's not what you're fostering.

The way life works, you and your husband impossed the kids on yourself, they had no say or pleasure for the matter...

I don't care how shiatty family is, they still are family and unless they are a danger to have around I was taught you open your home to them. Take for instance my sister's husband's sister. She is selfish, nasty, rude, and should probably be committed (and has been in the past). My sister still sucks it up and has her down and houses her because she is her husband's family. We were just brought up that way. Because just because someone else is a jackass, doesn't mean you should be one too.
