I can't read these threads anymore, with people talking out their ass about stuff they know nothing about. Just because you personally have/had a wonderful relationship with your parents doesn't mean everyone does. Just because your personal mother was good to you doesn't mean there aren't women out there who live to torment their children. Just because your personal father was a good man and you miss him every day doesn't mean there aren't some fathers who were worthless pieces of #### and their kids are glad they're dead.

My father is one of the nicest, kindest, most honest people I know. I would take bullet for my old man. His one flaw is he's a fence post sitter, he refuses to take a stand on anything. As a result my mother runs rough shot over the entire family with no checks and balances.

I will be that mother someday. If my kids grow up to be all shiatty to me, I'll impose myself on them, just as they imposed themselves on me for 18 years. Fair is fair. :shrug:

No one is being ####ty to anyone. We welcome her into our home and are wonderful hosts. You really think I would display this stress to my mother? F#ck no, she would see that as a sign of weakness and attack.

Again I don't hate my mother, I never said I did. She gave birth to me true but that's about it, after being beaten with a wooden kitchen spoon for years and having various pieces of furniture thrown at me (her favorite was a foot stool) I think I have earned the right to control how much interaction she has with my family.

You can berate me all you want, I came in here to blow off some steam and relieve some stress by pounding on a keyboard but I see this board has self righteous folks on it too.

A friend of mine's mother is a drunk. She insists on coming to the grandkids' games trashed and proceeds to embarrass everyone around her with her antics.

A couple of times the Mom has offered to pick the kids up from one place or another, then got hammered on the way and drove them drunk. So my friend just started saying, "No, I've got it" when her Mom would offer. Then the Mom started showing up at the kids' school, offering to drive them home. Obviously this puts the kids in the uncomfortable position of refusing.

So my friend just told her Mom, look, I don't want you around my kids when you're drinking. But the Mom just said, aw, you're no fun, and ignored her. Still shows up obliterated at the basketball games, still tries to coerce the kids to ride with her.

If it were me, I'd cut the Mom out of my life and have her arrested if she came around my kids. But my friend is like some of you in that she feels guilty and thinks family is important, so she just keeps putting up with it.

She is not going to call the cops on her mother. She had a hard enough time refusing to let her drive the kids. Besides, all the cops will do is arrest her, then promptly release her. What good does that do?
