I just saw the ad in the classifieds for the pocket puppies, location Mechanicsville -

Is this a puppy mill or a reseller? Please don't even try to convince me it's not a mill, if it's one home w/this many dogs, it's a mill - out for $$ only.

That sure fits the characteristics of "puppy mill" in my book.

I am VERY confused cause I know of the Pocket Pooch Hotel in Waldorf. To my knowledge she only breeds Yorkies. :jameo: WOW, I hope that this is not the case. I dont feel that you can be a responsible party to multiple breeds! Just one takes alot of devotion, time and commitment.

Sounds like possibly a puppy broker? I wish that breeders here were regulated better. I have a hard enough time with only breeding one type of dog, let alone 7 or 8. And brokers are bad too b/c they buy from lousy breeders for cheap, do nothing and make a huge profit, further inviting other lousy breeders to produce less than standard puppies.

If I'm reading this right, the puppies are CKC registered? There was a post before about the difference between AKC and CKC and if I remember correctly CKC has little to no standards when it comes to breeding. Pretty much anything goes. I'll have to see if I can find the post and re-read it.

Exactly, from the Continental Kennel Club's site:

Canine Registration Applications
Canine Registration Applications are used to apply for Registration in the following circumstances:

1.Dogs which are currently registered with another recognized kennel club may be registered by completing the CKC Canine Registration Application, making a copy of the other kennel club’s Registration papers, and sending them to Continental Kennel Club’s Registration office with the proper Registration fee, or

2.Dogs over 6 months of age which have no previous Registration history may be registered by providing 2 witness signatures attesting to the purebred status of the dog along with 3 photos (front, left and right) of the dog to confirm it is ‘of proper breed type’ as defined by our current CKC Registration Rules and Regulations.Canine Registration Applications are available in PDF format from our web site. (click here)

What a major crock...

and just because a dog is registered with AKC, it doesn't necessarily mean they're decent dogs either.

I dont believe that any one here will argue with that...BUT the standards for ckc are poor to say the least. "IF" it is important to you to purchase a registered breed, then obviously you should want AKC. In my eyes there is no other organization.
